Reaper and playing live

Hello, Long story short; I'm getting ready to do some live shows. Last time I played live was back in '96 (!) where I played the bass guitar in a rock band. This time around, it's going to be EDM/Synth/retrowave and I'll be alone playing synthesizers and midi-keyboards for VST's using Reaper as a host and backing track... Now...There are tracks with VST's where I'll be playing some sections live and where other sections of the same track will be played by pre-recorded midi. Would you double this track and freeze the pre-recorded sections to wav and have another track to host the VST played live? Or would you just go with one track where both the pre-recorded midi will trigger the VST as well as played live? Suggestions?

Ah, since 6.71 (version from yesterday) we have a setting to auto-bypass FX. Didn't test it, but it may help you to not freeze anything. Maybe someone will introduce you to this feature. If not, ReaperBlog is making a new video about 6.71, where should be discussed this feature.

jus bounce the midi to audio if it's a backing track and play along with your VSTi live. I do this all the time. I've used reaper as my keyboard rig for over 15 years. I did 3 series of a very popular UK TV show in the house band like this :) M
