Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the plastic cover is there for a reason. I think the foglight should only be on the offside of the car - so it's possible that you may now fail the MOT if you have two foglights.....

12. Other requirements- Where two rear fog lamps are fitted to a motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1986 or to a trailer manufactured on or after 1st October 1985 they shall form a matched pair. Source: Useful to have a matched pair if you drive in Europe.
IIRC, the reason for only having one foglight is to ensure that they don't obscure the effect of the brake lights. Legally, you must have at least one rear foglight and it must either be in the centre or on the driver's side. You can have a matched pair too, but very few cars do, see above...
also handy for turning on when the kn*b behind u has there front foggers on cuz "dey is well wicked init" never really looked into it but it does annoy me only having one as it looks odd will have a look and see if i can do it tommrow in the daylight
Not sure about the V70 but the facelift S60 it's not so simple. There is no wiring to the nearside bulb holder so need to run a wire from the drivers side and find a suitable earth and fashion some form of holder or, buy a left hand drive light unit.
one question , has the left fog light got a silvered reflector like the right? most havent so would appear less bright than the right hand from the rear . Volvo were pioneers of rear fog lights , TWO were fitted as standard when the 343 was introduced in 1976 and rear fog lights were available as an accessory from the early 1970's Then around the early 1990's volvo started deleting the left fog light to match other manufacturers and thats how it continued , but have you now noticed that many more new cars have 2 fog lights again ? A change in fashion or law?
