Holds back in 3rd is it normal

MessageAuthor

Everytime my 850 2.5 auto goes into 3rd when cold it is like it holds back for a second if that. Once it goes into 3rd again it is fine. Just does it once on every trip from very cold (car been sitting over night etc). Is this normal, something to do with the cold start system as someone i have been talking to has suggested or somthing else. The box has not long had new oil but the car was doing this before the oil change. Any surggestions is is this Normal. Thanking you Bob...

hello bob. mine is a manual and holds back as if going through a puddle, when it is cold. it does it when hot too, but not as noticeable. it is possible mine is drawing air in the fuel tank at the seal on top of the fuel pump, so have ordered a new seal. i dont know if this will rectify it, but according to haynes manual, the seal should be air tight. les

Doesn't feel as if it is holding back when hot. Does feel like going though a puddle when cold, going into 3rd for the first time. Once it goes in 3rd the 2nd time it seems ok.

Hello Bob It sounds like one of the autobox solenoids is sticking, then as pressure builds and the fluid warms up it free's off. As far as I know there are two and they can be changed with the box in situ. Do you have a flashing 'arrow' on the dash? BTW did you drain and refill, or did you flush out the atf? Flushing pumps out the old fluid as you top up with fresh, might help clear the sticking solenoid. PM

No flashing arrow, and i flushed the atf out the box not just a drain. As long as it is just that i will leave it.
